Loy Krathong is one of Thailand’s most beautiful traditions, celebrating gratitude, respect for nature, and new beginnings. Water has always played an important role in Thai life, providing food, transportation and supporting local communities.
On the night of the full moon, people create a small krathong from natural materials and decorate it with flowers, a candle and incense. They light the candle, make a wish and gently release the krathong onto the water.
As the krathong floats away, it represents letting go of worries and things from the past, while expressing gratitude and welcoming good things for the year ahead.
For many Thai people, Loy Krathong is also a special time to gather with family, friends and the local community, enjoying traditional food, music and cultural celebrations together.
